Abstract

The timor deer (Rusa timorensis) is a protected animal that is for knowing the condition of its population and habitat. Timor deer habitat have to be managed in the conservation area, one of which is Menipo Natural Tourism Park. The purpose of this study was to determine the population and habitat conditions of Timor deer in Menipo Natural Tourism Park.  The method used to determine the Timor deer population is a combination of points and paths while the habitat is described. The results of the study showed that the estimated population of Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) in a habitat area of 571 ha is 399 deer with a population range of 366 to 432 individuals at a 95% confidence interval with a population density of 1.14 individuals per hectare. The population structure shows an inverted pyramid so that the population is not good and there will be a decline in the future. The sex ratio shows 2:5 for adolescents, 2:3 for adults and 1:1 for the old age group. This sex ratio is not good for the Timor deer population because for Timor deer the good sex ratio is 1:5. The type of grass that is commonly found for deer is timor grass (Ischaemum timorensis). Other types of grass are Desmodium capitulum, Microlaena stipoides, Paspalum scrobiculatum, Imperata cylindrical. The parts of the mangrove that are eaten are young leaves, young stems and peeled bark. The types of mangroves commonly found as food for deer are Rhizophora mucronata, Bruguiera parviflora and Sonneratia alba. Part of the area is covered with the Alien Invasive Species (AIS) Austroeuphatorium inulifolium plant, so it needs to be eradicated.
